Siste konsert / last concert

i Århus for min del, gratis formiddagskonsert i Musikkhusets foaje med Kyle Shepherds kvartett. De er alle sammen fra Cape Town og elever av Sør Afrikas største jazzmusiker, Abdullah Ibrahim (han het Dollar Brand den gang jeg for noen tiår siden hørte ham flere ganger i Norge, han er fortsatt aktiv og reiser verden rundt og spiller piano, han har betydd veldig mye både for kampen mot aparteid og for frigjøring verden rundt. They are all from Cape Town and pupils of the great Abdullah Ibrahim (I remember him as Dollar Brand when I heard him severaaal times in the sixties and seventies. He is still active touring and has been very important in the fight against apartheid and for freedom for people in the world. Read about him here.) Pianist Kyle Shepherd er bare 23 år og er en av Sør Afrikas mest lovende jazzmusikere, han spiller veldig fint, også med tydelig påvirkning både fra Ibrahim og fra Keith Jarrett. Ethan Smith spiller sax, Shane Cooper bass og Marlon Witbooi trommer. Hør her.

en nydelig avslutning på min jazzferie i Danmark, musikken klinger fortsatt i hodet mitt. Og et godt tips for dere som har mulighet til å oppleve Melafestivalen i Oslo 6-8.august, en annen legendarisk Sørafrikansk jazzmusiker kommer, trompetisten Hugh Masekela, jeg kommer også! Og mange kommer til å danse, garantert!

a lovely ending of my danish jazz holiday, the music is stilling ringing in my head. And for you who have the possibility, the Mela Festival in Oslo will feature another south african jazz legend, trumpeter Hugh Masekela, I will sure be there too! And many will dance, for sure!
